New Jasper Research Shows AI Is Now Core to Marketing, With Scale and Governance Emerging as Top Barriers
AI has officially crossed a threshold in marketing. What began just two years ago as cautious experimentation has now become core infrastructure — reshaping how teams operate, measure performance, and are held accountable.
That’s the central takeaway from Jasper’s 2026 State of AI in Marketing Report, released today. The report captures a pivotal moment: marketers are no longer debating whether AI belongs in their workflows. Instead, they’re grappling with how to run AI as part of a durable operating model.
Compared with Jasper’s 2025 findings, the shift is decisive. Last year, many teams were still testing pilots and isolated use cases. In 2026, adoption is nearly universal — but scaling AI responsibly and proving its business value have emerged as the real challenges.
“Our findings capture just how quickly AI in marketing has evolved from experimentation toward measurable business impact,” said Loreal Lynch, CMO at Jasper. “With adoption now table stakes, the advantage is shifting to organizations that run AI with clear ownership, disciplined governance, and meaningful measurement.”
AI adoption is widespread — and maturing
According to the report, 91% of marketing teams now use AI, up from 63% in 2025. Nearly two-thirds of respondents say their organizations have reached intermediate or advanced AI maturity, signaling a move beyond ad hoc experimentation.
As AI becomes operational, priorities are changing. The top objective for marketers in 2026 is scaling high-quality content, which grew 2.4x year over year as teams shift from pilots to repeatable execution.
Proving ROI is harder — and more important
Despite widespread adoption, only 41% of marketers say they can confidently prove AI ROI, down from 49% last year. Jasper frames the decline not as weaker performance, but as a result of rising expectations.
Among teams that do measure ROI, most report returns of 2x or greater on their AI investments — reinforcing the idea that AI can deliver significant value when it’s properly operationalized.
Governance has become the bottleneck
As teams scale AI, governance and quality controls have overtaken budget and buy-in as the primary constraints. Friction from legal, compliance, and brand review processes increased 3.4x year over year, making it the leading blocker to broader AI deployment.
This marks a clear shift from 2025, when challenges were more evenly distributed across cost, expertise, and leadership alignment.
A growing gap between leaders and contributors
The report also highlights a widening divide between leadership and individual contributors. CMOs report the highest levels of AI maturity and ROI confidence, with 61% saying they can prove AI’s impact. By contrast, only 12% of individual contributors say they feel prepared for the increased pressure as AI becomes mandatory rather than optional.
Still, AI disruption appears to correlate with satisfaction — not burnout. Seventy-five percent of marketers say AI increased their job satisfaction in 2026, slightly down from 78% last year, reflecting greater accountability as AI becomes embedded in daily work.
AI is reshaping roles, not just workflows
One in three marketers now has AI responsibilities formally embedded in their role, spanning prompt design, workflow development, and governance. Access to AI has also become a key factor in employment decisions: 97% say AI access influences where they work, and 75% say it’s critical when evaluating a new role.
“At Jasper, we are focused on helping marketers turn AI into a durable competitive advantage, not just a short-term efficiency gain,” said Timothy Young, CEO of Jasper. “This research reinforces that success with AI now depends on how well teams operationalize it.”
The report is based on a survey of 1,400 marketers, conducted in partnership with Benchmarkit, across industries including technology, financial services, retail, media, and life sciences.
The conclusion is clear: AI in marketing has arrived. The winners now won’t be the teams that adopt it fastest — but those that can govern it, measure it, and run it like the infrastructure it has become.
